Humanities Core: The Human and Its Others

The Humanities Core Course is a nationally recognized, year-long integrated first year program at UC Irvine that develops critical reading and writing skills in relation to texts and relevant issues in the Humanities. Students read works of literature, examine major documents of world civilization, listen to music, study historical processes, and view films and works of art and architecture. The course fulfils 6 general education requirements in lower-division writing, Arts and Humanities, and Multicultural Studies. Students work alongside specialists in numerous disciplines and build skills in multi-modal communication. The year’s course theme was: “The Human and Its Others.”
